Information Literacy Pillars: Keys to Effective Leadership

How is information literacy (IL) practiced in your library? Communities everywhere rely on libraries to meet their expectations in ways that will not only instruct, but inspire and empower. This hands-on session will take a collaborative approach to revisiting the six frames (aka pillars) of information literacy: Authority Is Constructed and Contextual ~ Information Creation as a Process ~ Information Has Value ~ Research as Inquiry ~ Scholarship as Conversation ~ Searching as Strategic Exploration. While IL is often discussed in the settings of academic institutions, libraries of all kinds can and do utilize it to great positive effect. When aligned with critical thinking, these practices can help library professionals become more effective leaders in any environment.
