Romance and erotica are two genres that have long appeared on the banned book lists. The readers of said genres are characterized by their "poor" reading choices and disposition to "pornographic" reading materials. In this session, we explore the censorship of romance and erotica books in libraries and how readers have adapted to counter stigmatization. It discusses the genre's popularity, physical manifestations, and the influence of corporations and booksellers. The discussion also examines the impact of digital platforms on literature accessibility and how authors and readers navigate these challenges. The session aims to understand the complexities of censorship in this genre and its impact on reading experiences.
